slow trans leak

slow trans leak
My trans has a slow leak where it has the largest circumference where it splits in half. It is not leaking but has dirty oil like grime right by the seam, I went to GM and they said it wasn’t a gasket but they seal it with some red sealer. The tranny is coming out for a clutch change and was wondering how hard is it to split the trans and clean it to reseal it.

Are you sure it's the tranny of is it the trans-axel housing. This is a common problem and most here that have had the affliction have had it done under warranty. They replace the seal which is a large O-ring and also the half shaft seal. There is a replacement seal for the differential housing. My .02

I just had my seals replaced on my 2000 and when I get the new Torq Converter installed I am having my tranny filter and gasket done too.

Was this a 6speed or auto.. there are a couple issues I have seen with leaks..
6speed the gear selector shaft seal & case halfs leaking (which are assembled with silicone RTV ect from the factory)
Auto.. I've seen the out put shaft seals leaking there is a revised seal from GM, seen pan gaskets, torq converter hub seal, and other leaks..
Assuming it's a 6 speed to split the case to re seal shouldn't be all that hard with the trans out of the car..
