I finally got up to Pep boys and picked up the 50 watt 885's. After numerous gymnastic moves in the 90+ degree heat I managed to replace both of them. So far so good. But now I realize that both of them are not even centered up with their holes and one has already begun melting the plastic on top of it! I don't remember them being this badly aligned before? I know about the up/down adjustment just to the top of the light but this only moves the lights up or down a little bit. Seems like a fine tuning adjustment? How do I center these so that I'm not lighting and heating my engine compartment?
BTW, The melting occured with the original 38 watt bulbs...
Yes ... I took the GoldFish out because they're camera shy! :D
No water ... just an optical illusion I guess.
Well, looks like I'm the only one with this problem? Is everyone elses fog lights lined up perfectly in the hole? Guess I'll take it to the dealer and have them see if they can fix it ... scary thought.
David,
As you can see in the photo, that piece of the bracket that looks like a "D" is where the bracket bolts to the car. The hole looks elongated so I would say there is room for some adjustment up & down, and probably sideways. My suggestion is to remove the headlamp assembly ( I know this sounds complicated, but it's really quite easy) then you will have easy acess to the fog lamps. There is one bolt holding them on, so loosen them and see if you can move them around some. I hope this helps!
Thanks Mag! but I'm not comfortable going any further than I have ... No way that I can see to access the assembly without lots of parts removal.
To top it off .... I put in the 50 watt bulbs the other day and early this morning while it was still dark I went out to adjust them. As I was adjusting the driver side fog, I noticed smoke! They started melting the plastic within 30 seconds. Besides getting them lined up I'm wondering about replacing the plastic around them with something more resilient ... Would the Z06 screens help to keep me from going up in smoke?
