Coolant Flush Procedure...Why the Difference??
Noticed the procedure for performing a coolant flush is different in the 2000 C5 GM Shop Manual vs. the 2004 Manual. The '00 says you should use clean drinkable water.... '04 says deionized water. '00 says after filling system, run engine with pressure cap off for 30 seconds....'04 says run engine with cap on. '00 says to rev engine at from 2-3k rpm's, up & down for a few minutes....'04 says run the engine for 20 minutes. Why the differences??

Took my 00 to the Dealer who uses a chemical flush. I gave them distilled water to add to the anti freeze. Cost $100.

What's the difference between distilled & deionized water?? Noticed the GM Service Manual says to use deionized water.

Is there an issue with the coolant type. I've had a few pros tell me to not use the red dexcool . They say it wants to gel or crust up in the system.

Distilled water is distilled. Deionized water is run through an ion exchange deminerlizer. The end result is about the same. The dissolved solids and hardness are removed from the water, leaving it fairly pure.

Who sells distilled water? Can you buy this at auto supply stores or a specialty shop?
