Hi there, I am putting an alternator noise suppressor on my alternator power wire. There is a thick red wire connected to the alternator and there is a plug with 3 wires (labeled S, F, & L) plugged into my 2002 c5's alternator. I am pretty sure that the thick red wire is the power wire. Could somebody please verify this as being the alternator power wire?????
Thanks,
Jamey

I'm not sure the thick red wire at the alt. is called the power wire or not but don't disconnect it until you disconnect the neg. cable from the battery first! That red wire is hot, ignition key on or key off.
Good Luck with your project.
The L-terminal circuit from the generator is a discrete circuit (a discrete circuit has no splices and only one source and destination) into the PCM.
The L terminal is the red wire.. you can not put anything in that line....it comunicates directly with the PCM... you are asking for about 450 dollars worth of trouble. Its a descret line for a reason.
I think ET answered your question. The thick red wire (called L terminal circut) runs directly to the PCM, NOT THE BATTERY. Yes, the red wire is HOT but don't hook up anything to it.
Most likley, if you are getting alternator noise (whining) through your stereo, you may have poor grounding on one or more of your components. Also the C5 has also been known to have ground problems of its own. If I where you, first check to see if you have very solid true grounds on ALL your components. Then if you must use an alternator noise suppressor, just put it inline with just your head unit. Most noise suppressors will not be able to handle the load of the entire car so it would not be wise to attempt to install the noise supressor on the alternator output lead.
