I'm thinking about getting a two post lift. Does anybody know of any reach problems for getting to the rear jacking pads with the asymmetric. Which one would you buy an asymmetric or regular one?
I have a symetrical two post, I got the widest one Bendpak makes 118" between the posts. No problem getting doors open, I didn't go asymetrical because I wanted to pick up 3/4 ton long box trucks don't want that much rig hanging off one end, but if your only using for cars wouldn't be a problem.
As wide as these cars are you won't have any problem at all reaching the jacking pads with an asymmetric lift. I'm looking at the asymmetric design myself. I have not lifted my car on a asymmetric lift yet but every standard twin post I have use the arms a almost too long. I normally have to put all the arms all the way in and roll the car forward and stick the front arms under, then roll the car backwards and stick the rear arm under, the center the car (front to rear) and then position the arms for lifting. I have run into the problem if your not exactly centered left to right your short side arms are too long. The best way I have found to lift mine is position the car a little back on the lift and put the front arm under the front cross member and the rear arms at the jacking pads. I normally just use short wood 2x4 blocks between the car and lift.

How do you lift guys deal with actually getting the lift under the car? In other words, is there an issue with body clearance for you lowered guys? I want to get a lift, but for the few shops I've taken the car to so far, it's never fit over a 2 post lift's jacking points. Just drive the car on boards first, or what?

I drive the front wheels up onto a chunk of 2x10, tapered at one end, one for each wheel. That gives me enough room to get the arms under my hockey pucks. I don't use the lift pads on the arms, I take them off. The pucks contact the arm itself. My car is stock height.

I drive mine on four peices of 2X12 one at each wheel. It gives just enough clerance to get the lift arms under the car. The lift that I use has pretty thick arms, I have seen other lifts that should fit no problem.

Bend Pak (and probably others) has a low clearance arm option available that reduces the arm heighth to 3 1/2".
Thanks for the info. One more thing - did you guys reinforce the floor under the posts in anyway, or pretty much just bolt and go? I'm thinking a reinforced garage floor would be fine, although that's a bit of weight for a 12" x 12" area of concrete that's 4" thick.
My neighbor has this lift. It has the same concerns as your 2-post, but it's versatility is great. You can roll this lift out on your driveway and power wash your underside outside, or just do a brake job outside on a nice weekend.

I have the Bend Pac asymmetric lift, the wide one. Works great!!!!!!
You will have to drive up on wood blocks to get arms under. Don't buy the lower arm version it's like $400. it brings arm height from 4" to 3 1/2" They also have a 11' 2" high clear floor model if you are alittle under 12' ceiling height.
I also suggest getting the rocker rail protectors (alum.that bolts to your frame) then you can lift the car with the lift pads that come with the lift.
