this subject has been talked a lot. Most people I know love their 4.10 gears up until a certain point then they become too much gear. The 4.10s gear were one of my first mods and I love them. I think for seat of your pants acceleration they were better than adding headers. As a matter of fact I would not have added headers if I was not going with the H/C package. My all stock C5 with 4.10 gears, halltech stinger and ghl cat back ran an impressive 12.6 in the 1/4 mile.
Now here comes the hard part - what are your long term mods and your driving style. If you plan over 475 rwhp then 4.10s are not for you. If you dont like to shift then 4.10s are not for you.

If you plan on doing Heads & Cam later then the gears will really compliment that setup. If you go to a stroker or supercharger, the 4.10s may cause a traction problem for you.
I dont think so. I have 445 rwhp and I can easily average 28.5 mpg on the highway. If I really want to be easy I bet I can get into the mid 29 range and maybe 30.
Around town suffers the most. I think that is about 17 mpg now.
Get the 4.10's ...you will never look back.........great mod.......If you have an almost stock vette your mileage will only drop 2mpg on the highway...........
much of the bad rep about 4.10s comes from the opinions of those that drove cars in the 60s. Back then muscle cars only had 4 speeds. Anyone running 4.10s would be cruising around pushing 4k RPM or higher. Not fun.
That is not true in a 6 speed car. Your RPMs will be very low, almost unbelievably low, and the mod is certainly very driveable.
The other ding is traction. In my view , traction is always an issue no matter what the gear (of course, depending on power levels). Yes, the 4.10s will have more issues with traction from a dead stop and a khamikazi launch (duh), but most of our cars are daily drivers, thus banzaii launches are few, if ever. In my humble opinion 4.10s are awesome. I have run 3.42, 3.73, 3.90 and 4.10s. I personally prefer the 4.10 and my car has north of 450 rwhp.
There are driving characteristics to consider as well. As a 4.10 will ramp up your acceleration quicker, it does an equal job at de-accelerating so if you are into coasting , the gear is not for you.
Then there is the ding about 4.10 use at the strip. That can easily be overcome using a taller rear tire, so , again, in my view 4.10s are awesome street and strip.
