What's the straight Skinny on running a VARARAM in Heavy Rain.
Looking at getting one for my 02 but don't want to put it on and have to take it off if I travel out of Sunny Southern California!! Planning a trip east this summer and dont want to blow a motor on the trip. I know enough not to submerge the nose but how well does the water trap really work.
I drove in the rain occasionally and never had a problem. Obviously it does have the potential of hydro lock.
I like the vararam, great performance. I think if I lived in a very rainy area and it was my daily driver I would give it some second thoughts. But I have another vehicle I could drive so it was not a factor. The only time I drove in the rain is when I would get caught out in it.
It is very rare to hear of a vararam hydro lock scenario though. I don't think I have ever seen one posted. But I am sure it has happened to someone.
Like mentioned above the biggest danger would be standing water.
Run 80 miles round trip to work many many times in HEAVY rain behind semi's; never any problem. Have checked the filter after these runs and felt no dampness. After installing there's a noticable improvement in the 70 - 140 acceleration; just SOTP, no data but I'm happy with the mod.

Thanks
Had it on my C5 and had no problems in the rain. But you do have to careful of other cars splashing large amounts of water towards you,
Don't know how far east you are talking about traveling, but I wouldn't even consider driving cross country with a Vararam installed. Get caught in a real heavy rain at night and it could be disasterous.
