I went from 2.73's to 3.42's with my 99 A4 coupe. It is stock except for the 1. gears, 2. Black wing, 3. Ti cat back, 4. Predator tune. Since the gear change the tires spin pretty easy. With TC on they spin a few seconds at launch and at second gear, but with it off it spins through 1st. and 2nd. gear and seems like I really need to do something with the tires. I am running Falken 451's in the stock sizes and I am wondering if this is normal experience or if other tires would help.
Ratios will do that for you. I'm not rockin' a auto, but mine has no problem spinning into 2nd with the right launch/conditions. I've got stock size dunlop sp 9000's on right now, but I just bought a set of 315s from another member - we'll see what those do for my traction/to my differential. I'd suggest a bit stickier tire to make yourself happier, and the butt-o-meter go up a bit more comin' off the line.
Not at all unusual as its par for the course. Get some stickier tires is all you can do. You outta try fighting tire spin with 3.73's, H&C, 3600 Convertor and a 100 shot of nitrous.

You may want to try to adjust your tire pressure...
I have a feeling that your too high, I would take the car out heat up the tires and see what kinda pressure you have "HOT" if they are 34 0r 35, take a few pounds out this will increase the foot print to max. many people run 30 psi cold only to have them heat up to 34/35/36. at this pressure they become center high, reducing the foot print ( full contact patch ) at 35 psi the tires will look flat on the bottom but the center will see more down force because the tires are over inflated... this center force actually lifts the side of the footprint off the surface, you lose traction and get tire spin... it can make a 10,000 mile difference in your tire longevity.
