I have the FIPK2 and the 67 steps in the box seem to be fricking useless. I have searched and will do more, but I was wondering if there were any basic writeups on removeal of old system and installation of new. I have the air bridge off but the box is being a pain. It also notes to cut the lower radiator cover. Since I have not yet even removed the box I am not sure why this step is needed. (Maybe cool air?) Anyways if anyone has done this and can help alittle that would be great. Damn its an intake filter not a motor swap.
O.K. I figured out the rest of the removal. Yank the damn thing out I am being to easy on this car. I can't wait until the newness wears off. Now the question is. What is all involved with the cutting
I installed this intake with the help of a friend. We just followed everything on the step-by-step guide and it was pretty easy (I didn't find the instructions useless and the pictures really helped). The hardest part was getting the silicon hoses to fit over the ends of the ridged parts (remember to put the loose clamps on first so you don't have to do it again) and then you have to adjust the spacing so the filter will attach to the tabs on the front bumper (where the air box was attached). Also, I had to cut the vent hose so it mated well with the existing and I reused the coupler (the one in the kit did not fit the existing hose).
It appears that the cut to the shroud is needed for clearance for the filter, but I did not do a fit without the cut, so I am not sure.
If you run into any specific problems, let me know and I'll tell you what I did - but I recommend taking another look at the included instructions, they are a big help.
Thanks for the response I did end up finishing her yesterday. You need to make the cut to allow it all to fint. I bought new clamps and also cut the breather tube some to fit just right. Drove the car for a couple hours last night and it was fine. My copy of the instructions was a horrible print and I couldn't really make out the pics, but I do agree in the end that the instructions are needed. I am happy with the finished product
glad you got it up and running. I really like mine. I can see how the instructions would be unless if the pictures are hard to see -- I almost exclusively used the pictures in my install.
It was a successful day with the car but a bitch to say the least. After I finally finished the intake I replaced a distribution block and lost a screw somewhere. Then to top off the day, 3 weeks after a $200 dealer coolant flush (Previous owner did service) I loose over 2 gallons of Dexcool on the floor of my GARAGE Needless to say I am glad it all worked out. Next time I change a thermostat I'll make sure I need new coolant as well
teddyca...looks like you are keeping busy with all these mods. Glad you got this filter on. Its all easy AFTER the first time. Good luck on the rest of your projects
No kidding. I am running out of cash. I have the new exhaust going in on Wed. and Thursday it goes to the shop for a full alarm system and new system. Then I save for wheels.
