shifter removal
i've got the old shifter out, ready to put a hurst one in...one problem. how do i get the darn shifter boot and little locking nut off? I've tried everything i can't figure it out! please help!

Are you reffering to the little key that holds the shift **** on (inside the ****)? If so, it takes quite a bit of work- you can try to lock vice grips on it and eventually wiggle it out, but what worked for me was taking a screwdriver and knocking the bottom of it with a hammer to knock it loose, then pulling it out with the vice grips. It was a real pain!

Flat head and pry. Might rip your ****. Be prepared. The boot should be connected to the console. The leather boot has heavy duty staples to a piece of plastic. You shouldn't even need to mess with it though, unless your swamping out the boot.

I installed a Hurst shifter in my car.. What are you talking about? The 'key' that holds the stock shift **** on? If so, the biggest pair of vise grips that will grab the 'key" and then wiggle it back and forth and side to side and back and forth until it pulls out.
