Take it in, have them replace the fuel pump while you still have coverage.
If they will fix it underwarranty with the only issue being the whine which they may say is "Normal" some whine is but if it seems lounder then usual it could be a sign of failure.. if this was my car I would scope the fuel pump pattern and see the integrity of the pump electricly.
Basically this is hooking up an osciliscope and an amp clamp on the power feed and checking the current draw and wave form..

Dealer says it may be the fule filter, says if it is dirty the fuel pumps get noisy, any experience with this? Car has 26K miles/1999.
Thx,

I had my 98's fuel pump replaced last month because it started to whine, since they had it up in the air I had them change out the fuel filter since it was 8 years old, 25,000 miles. The pump was covered under extended warranty, I paid for the fuel filter. The service people never brought up that the pump whine could be caused by a fuel filter problem. In 1998 my fuel pump started to whine after 1,000 miles (like most everyone else's 97-98) and was replaced. I doubt that the cause of that incident was a fuel filter issue.

Possibly maybe if it's restricted.. but I would think you would have a driveability issue along with the added noise if it was that bad.. I really doubt it... One way to find out.. replace the filter..
But again I would scope the pump maybe before and after replaceing the filter, to check for current draw and pattern to verfiy the integrity of the comutator and windings ect in the electric motor...
Note: I always reccomend replacing a fuel filter when a fuel pump is replaced.. any particals from pump failure will end up in the old filter.. plus a restricted filter can cause added stress to a pump.. thats my reasoning.. but I'm sure someone does it differently ect..
