A buddy of mine just called me and asked me to post this issue he is experiencing. His Oil Pressure Gauge is at the extreme right, reading above the 80PSI marker. His DIC is reading 129 PSI. This is at idle, and under load while driving.
He's made some calls to some people, and they believe it could be the oil sending unit.
Anyone else have any ideas of what the issue could be?

This is a typical failure on the C5- I believe it to be located under the intake manifold, so this becomes a pain in the butt to replace. The sending unit is one of those over time it will fail parts...not a matter if if, but when...
This is probably the most common problem with our cars. If you have a warranty or extended warranty, the dealer will replace the oil sending unit. If not the dealer will charge $300.00. Ouch!! If you replace yourself it will probably take 1 hr an 30 minutes maybe 2 hrs. Don't go to the the dealership and buy another POS sending unit!!! NAPA auto parts makes an OEM replacement, maybe aftermarket? Any how if you go to the chevy parts dept, just remember you will be doing the job again in the near future. I've heard there is an updated part number for this unit. Not sure if it has been revised or not. Someone w/ more knowledge may chime in... To verify the problem turn the ignition key to the on position with the engine off. Do Not start the engine. The oil pressure gauge should peg at 80 psi and the dic will read 129-130 with the engine off and the key in the on position. Obviously you will not get any oil pressure reading with the engine off
See this is making me a bit of a hypocrit for saying this but no joke I see a post like this almost every single day. Can some one please search or sticky...
I replaced my oil pressure sensor with the GM part (was $46). I too heard of some problems with this part, here is what Muncie21 told me.

I got my sensors from GM. There's been allot of talk about the GM quality, here's the readers's digest version. GM transfered production of the OP sensors to Mexico. The first batches (several thousands, perhaps 100's of thousands) had QA issues. Supposedly these have been fixed. If I remember the original and first replacement had brass base, the second replacement looked aluminium or something like that. I'd go with the GM one and be done with it. The part is about $30 from GM Parts direct.
As for the intake bolts, I didn't bother with loctite, just tightened them in a star sequence. I recently removed the intake to install a blower...all the original bolts were tight.
Good luck on the install (takes about 2.x hours first time around) and enjoy your C5. BTW there's lots of info regarding sensor install. Only thing I'll add is, make sure you connect the tiny, weenie vacuum tube at the rear of the manifold or your vents won't work properly
easy test, get in the car turn the key on but do not start the engine. if the oil pressure reads 129 lbs with out the engine turning then the sensor is bad.
otherwise let me have your oil pump it must be the baddest super ported oil pump in the world ie "oil pump from hell"
and oh yes please do a search on "oil" for the entire site, it will come back with several hits that are the same as your question. IE search is your friend.
