Stock C5 Knocking???
I have noticed recently that I'm getting what I believe to be a knocking sound from my C5. It seems to occur above 4500 rpm, while at WOT.
At first, I thought it may be the traction control kicking in; however, I turned it off, and the sounds persisted. Next, I thought it may be bad gas, although I only use Chevron, 93 octane... I filled her up again, and the problem was still there.
I am a bit confused though... I would think that the slightest bit of knock would trigger the check engine light; however, mine has yet to come on. Would a knock trigger the CEL?
Are there any scan tools or diagnostic equipment that would monitor in real time the timing to see if the computer is taking timing away at high rpm?
If the CEL does come on if the motor knocks, I guess I can eliminate that as a suspect (unless the knock sensor is dead??)
what else could be causing this type of sound?
Help!
The CEL should not come on with a knock. It should come on if there were a bad knock sensor (ks).
There are tools that can monitor ignition timing, (someone should step in that knows the brand), and it can record how the ks is advancing or retarding the timing.
