I was swapping out the stall, and I coulnt find any links on a "how to" but I found several on Manual clutch swaps, So i was basicaly following that to a point, Well, I went to pull out the shift linkage, and when I went to pull it up a little, there was a pop. And now the car will go down into the gears, but when I go to put it in park, it stays in gear. I found the broken part, its a black plastic sleeve about 4 inchs from the shifter itself. It stops the cable from going up and down, and makes it only go front to back. My question, Can this part be swapped out without removing all of my rear assembly? Can I possibly make a trap door behind the shifter in the tunnel, to fix this? Or am I basically ****ed and the ***** rear assembly has to come back out?
Im a little frustrated right now to say the least. I was supposed to be taking this car to the Track for a big meet on saturday.
Ok, well I went ahead and cut a trap door, so now I can easly access the broken part. Its about 4 inchs from the joint at the bottem of the shifter, and it has a metal L bracket where both sides of this plastic tube goes through, and the shiftlinkage wire goes through the middle of all of this.
This sucks.....
If im able to somehow pick up a new cable tomorow, I might then still be able to get to the track on Saturday, but who knows who would actually have this in stock.
The exhaust and tunnel plate need to be removed so the shifter cable can be changed. A trap door is not necessary to change the cable and could weaken the tunnel frame. Use a small mirror and light to see behind the shifter. Do not lift the new cable end very much or it too will break, you only have about 1/2" to lift the cable/shifter. Once the new cable is installed then reinstall the tunnel plate and exhaust
