Default horsepower engine to wheels

my 2000 automatic stock 345 hp @ motor mustang dynoed @ 320hp with 329 torque

mods added k&n air flow, x pipe with magnaflow exhaust, superchip tune mustang dynoed @ 339 hp with 348 torque

added kooks LT headers with high flow cats all stainless steal 3" pipe with mandrel bends. Speed shop had problems with mustang dyno and mustang came out and put new roller and new program new dyno came out with 317 hp and 347 torque speed shop said original numbers were high because dyno was wrong . Does anyone know the percentage of horsepower lost from engine to wheels ? Can anyone approximate with all mods what my horsepower should be?

Different Dyno's will give different reading. My z06 on a dynojet put down 356 rwhp. On a Dyno-Dynamics it put down 250 whp.

I've read here on the forum that with a manual trans there is an approximate 15% energy loss to the rear wheels. 20% for an auto until the converter locks up. Then they are supposedly equal.

Those first 2 dynos are way off. Way to high.. Stock numbers should be around 290hp and310 torque.. MUSTANG Dynos are a POS.. Stick with a Dynojet. The last dyno you did with the headers looks about right.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Power loss for a4 = 18% for a 6 speed its 15%
Formula is rwhp divided by 0.82 for a4 = crank hp
Formula for 6 speed is rwhp divided by 0.85 = crank hp
Example 287rwhp divided by 0.82 = 350 crank hp (stock a4)
Example 298rwhp divided by 0.85 = 350 crank hp (stock 6speed)

And yes every car is different horsepower can vary + or - either way. Sean at Fast Tech Dyno tests Ls1 powered cars all day and has done so for years. He uses this formula and its pretty close to right on the money..

Ill put some on my opinion on this.
I have a 1999 Coupe with Kooks Longtubes and Off-Road X-Pipe. It dynoed on a Superflow dyno calibrated for Dynojet at 334hp and 350 tq. Most people around the nation are using a dynojet for a standard. So when someone gets low numbers on a Superflow, or mustang dyno, they think those dynos are junk. I believe a little bit differently. The mustang dyno, superflow or etc. all have their own calibration factor, but the main thing to keep in mind is that those dynos use a different load rating to help load the car more and provide a more accurate reading and more consistent. This may not be a huge issue on NA cars, But on boosted or juiced cars, Its nice to be able to create a load on the car to build boost or let the car rev slower to get a more accurate reading. This is alos a huge advantage when it comes to tuning these cars, If you can slow down the revs on the dyno, You can get a more accurate tune.

I guarantee the Mustang was wrong- way, way too high. A stock '00 A4 will make about 290 rwhp on a dynojet. Less on a Mustang.

See sig for my dynojet results (with mods similar to yours).
