Saw a post here somewhere about someone making a radiator screen (fits under radiator to keep road debris from being sucked up in front of radiator) from material bought at Home Depot-- I'm interested to know if anyone has a "pattern" to follow- or some DIY instructions for making one-- Worst case I figured I'd keep trying cardboard patterns till one worked- Just thought I could save some trouble- thanks in advance-
I made one a few years ago..... more hype than help./// while it will stop a plastic bag, it doesnt stop cigarette butts, leaves, and bugs etc... if the mesh is too small it cuts down on the air flow and you will run hotter than the car already runs in the summer. I made one a few years ago...but I had to remove it every year to clean all the stuff that still got up there... after the second time removing it to clean it, I just left it off...
I bought the galvinized screen from home depot(about 5/16'). It came in a small roll. No need for a pattern. I just measured the opening underneath and cut the screen about 2" larger all around. I held the screen up to the opening and marked the sides with a marker. I folded the sides over about 1" to have a stronger edge with no sharp ends. I then held it up again and put the screen over the bottom lip of the front fascia, loosening the screws in it and and tightened them back up. Then just wrapped the back end around the square bar that runs across the front end. Car has over 3000 miles on it with the screen, no problems with debris and it has not come loose. The guys at A&A commented on it when they did the H?C package. Said it looked simple to do.
