Default Draw-tite hitch install

I'm installing the hitch on my 04 Z06 and haveing issues with the delivered carriage bolt and plates. Direction state that they should go in from the bottom in the existing holes with no modifcation mentioned.

Did anyone have an issue getting these in?

What did you do to fix the problem?

I don't see it working that way at all. I just did my 2001 coupe 3 weeks ago and I had to drill 1" holes as per the directions. It's the only way to get the plates into the frame. I don't have my directions anymore so I can't tell you the measurement. However drawtite does have them online. I would go look there first.

Here are the directions. You need to drill a 1" access hole 5" from the center of the bolt hole.

I'm actually talking about the other two connections forward on the side frame rails. Their is a oval cut out that the carriage bolt and plate are to fit through and I can't find any way to get it in there?

I'm on board with both of you on the back and cut my 1" hole for the bolt that are on the metal runner.

Remember the other bolts? problems?

OK, somehow you got both the bolt and plate into that hole without losing it into the rail and without modification of the hole??????

Yes I did, I turned the plate on it's long end and slid it into the hole. I then took the bolt on the tip of my fingers and put it into the hole and stuck it into the hole on the plate. I was then able to grab a few threads of the bolt and pull it down through the hole in the frame. Like I said it's a royal PITA but it can be done.

All by hand only, is it the plate thats not fitting? Are you trying to feed it through with the bolt in it? If thats the case that would not work for me, I had to put the plate and then get a finger in the hole and feed the bolt through the plate.

OK, so a two step process.

First you put the plate in on it side, then separately put the bolt up and into the hole of the plate?

OK, well I'm not inspired and motivated to make it work. I knew it must be some type of mechanical origami.

Yes that was the way mine went. I tried to put the plate with the bolt in one step but it was a no go. Had to do 2 steps, thought it was me as nobody ever mentioned it. Good Luck it is worth it once your done.

I modified your method slightly, I attached a piece of thread to each peice as a safety. And by putting the bolt in first, running that thread through the plate and putting that one in, I could get it close then pull it through.

Thanks for the help.

I'm glad you got it. I wish I would have thought of using thread, excellent idea.
