Just like the title says folks.. I just installed my PLX R500 Wideband controller today and took the car out for a drive with a friend. Now I don't usually let people drive her but today was an exception as we were cruising the highway some stupid $%ck in the car in front of us chucked something out of his car and we heard it hitting the undercarridge. My friend asked if we should stop but since I didn't hear anything I told him I'll check it later. After I dropped him I started noticing that the car was making a wierd " knock " whenever I turn left. I took the car to a car wash and jacked her up. No Visible damage from below. I mean nothing. I drive the car a bit more this is the analysis :
While driving straight = Nothing.
While Making Right Turns = Nothing.
While Making Left Turns = Knock ( Seems to be coming from Driver Side )
Note though If I continue the same angle it doesn't knock just when I initially turn in a certain angle to the left.
It also knocked when I turned right to park on an incline twice. Once when I turned then when the car stopped .
Any idea what this is guys ? End link maybe ?
Note : When I say knock it sounds like a knock on a wooden door. Except I can feel it in the body of the car.
Ok I took the car to the dealership. We examined the car again from below NOTHING was wrong. We checked her for about 20 mins. And we have clarified the problem a bit more , the knock doesn't happen when I turn left it happens when the body weight shifts to the right . But as stated everything seems ok. Our theory is maybe something got caught between the body and the aluminum shield and is causing this sound. Anyway I have a car show today and tomm. to take my car to so the guys verified no danger with the suspension. I will take her back on Saturday but hope to diagnose this before then. Can anyone help ?
P.S About the half joints they said they would knock even if the car was going straight not only when the weight is being transferred to the right so that is out. Also note that the sound seems to be coming from the middle to the rear half of the car.
Mine started making knocking or clunking noises after changing the sway bars and shocks. After several searches by different people without any luck I decided to just turn up the stereo and install a louder exhaust.
I had a very similar......well almost exact type of sound you are describing and went as far as to have my neighbor (small guy) lay in in the back and try to locate the area where this was coming from. What I finally found is that the over axle part of the exhaust had somehow worked itself far enough over to the right that when I made a left turn at speeds over 20-30mph it was enough to get it to bump against the cars frame! Drove me nuts for 2 months trying to find this. I just loosend the clamps and used a small piece of wood to pry it over to center a bit, re-tightened and viola, noise gone. Take a look!!! (I do have a aftermarket cat back).
