Regarding oil life remaining, that is. If not, why not? Don't you think GM put enough testing into the algorithms do allow for safe engine life? If you do follow it, how far will you let it go? And if you had engine problems due to not changing oil but following the DIC, would that not be covered by GM? thnx
I change the oil when the cars DIC tells me it's below 10% remaining oil life. I don't change it more often because I don't want to wear out the drain plug and because it really pisses off a lot of people I wait that long.
I change my oil about every 4-5 months, which is roughly only about 1K-1.5K miles between oil changes. My DIC usually shows about 80% every time i change the oil. However my car isn't a daily driver.
I'm with 99c54me, except I wait till the "CHANGE OIL NOW" (0%) message comes up on the DIC. Mobil One is good for at least 20k miles so the 6k-8k from the computer is well within limits. I drive over 1500 miles a month so time is not a factor. I do change my oil every 12 months (or less if the engine sits idle for more than 2 months) even if there is not enough milage to warrant it. This is to prevent poblems from condensation.
