Default Erratic Memory Seats - Is there a reset?

My memory seats are beginning to act up. I have the easy entry option enabled but the seats do not always return to the memory position. Sometimes the memory is lost for good and I have to reprogram. Is there a way to reset some kind of module or do I have to take it in and get it replaced? My seats are rocking - plan on taking in sometime anyway.

For the memory to work properly... (I believe) you have to unlock the car with the "correct" key fob, & shut the door, before inserting the key.

Doing everything as I usually have. Memory is just not working consistantly as it used to. I thought I saw a post sometime ago that a seat memory "PCM" could be reset. I think I saw this problem surface here before. Anyone know if a fob re-training might work?

I had the same problem with my vert. I found that after it rained or I washed it, the drivers side leaked a little water where the 2 weather strips meet near the windshield. and the water was dripping down onto the seat switches, causing feed back to the seat controls. I dried it out and adjusted the top so it doesn't leak anymore - no problems since. I don't know if that helps but thats what mine did.

Pull the DIC error codes per the Tech Tips pages here. You may find exactly what problems you have.

In my case, I have an intermittent short to the front motor and a position sensor that fouls up because of it. :U Yours could also involve the BCM - body control module - the DIC codes will tell you what's up.

Will let the :chevy dealer fix it whenever something else serious happens.

Now, my other suggestion is to turn off the "Auto-Glide" feature and program your driving position into one memory setting and the "get out" position into another (you have three memory settings). This one change has made mine more bearable for the interim. Seems to not foul up as much.

Regards

I first had this problem about a year ago. It got progressively worse…to the point that it would jam me all the way forward into the steering wheel. I brought it to the dealer who said that it was not throwing any codes but that it happened to the tech also. They told me that when the computer is sick it doesn’t always record codes. They replaced the BCM and that fixed the problem for about a year. It is doing it again but the dealer (different one) doesn’t believe me and they have not been able to replicate it in the shop (three visits so far). They say that they won’t replace the computer unless they can witness the problem.

Hope this helps

ataDude: Thanks for the info. Checked codes and it showed "no codes" for 40 BCM, surprisingly, I noticed several other codes all over the place but the info scrolled by so fast, I couldn't write any down. Anyone know if codes are normal or should I have them all checked out?

Charley: Mine does what yours did. Seat sometimes goes too far forward or sometimes not far enough. Pressing memory sometimes restores seat to intended position but sometimes memory is completely lost. It did it occasionally in the past and I couldn't duplicate it at will so I left it alone. Now it does it a lot but I'm afraid with my luck, I may not be able to duplicate it at the dealer. I was hoping there was a reset of some sort but it sounds like some control module replacement. Thanks for your input.

Default JohnS.....

...pulling the codes is a two-part deal. The first part scrolls automatically...after its through scrolling, it'll show you the codes by module or component. You have an opportunity to reset those codes at this time and also write them down.

My 2001 does it too. I finally turned off the damn "Easy Entry" feature...

it was too aggravating!

Mmmm... same problem on a 2001 already?! I know turning off "easy entry" cures the aggravation but its also aggravating to get in and out without the feature: besides, we did pay for the feature with the memory seat option.

I noticed when I park in my grage and do not lock the car w/fob the memory will never recall , but when I checked it by locking the car with the fob it recalled every time. :yesnod:
Good luck on the fix.
