I've got a 2000 FRC. I read on the FAQ that is posted that the 98-00 used a paper filter that is incompatible with synthetic ATF fluids. I wanted to change to amzoil or mobil 1 ATF synthetic fluid, it's getting aruond that time with almost 60K on the car. Help is appreciated

I've never heard that... I've been running Redline ATF and their gear oil in my M6 for almost a year now with nothing but smoother shifting. IMHO just do it!
The problem is with paper blocker rings from what I remember, and has something to do with the base certain synthetic oils are formulated from. I believe Amsoil isn't a problem. I think Redline was ok, but I would definately wait for confirmation from someone who definitely knows.
I researched this a couple of months ago and can't remember the exact response but I know it did not include 99 and new vettes. I went with synthetic Mobile 1 and it works great. Smoother shifting to you. I assure you I would not have put it in my car without having the forum o.k.
You caan now purchase Dexron VI, available thru dealers now and rasonably priced. It is the new standard for GM transmissions. I've had Red-Line and Mobil 1. Just switched to GM Dexron VI and it is the best yet I have tried. Can be retro-fitted to all transmissions.

Manual tranny takes four quarts (actual fill is about 3.7). I use this in mine which sees exclusive track use: AMSOIL ATF

Take it from another Coastie...I use Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF in my '98 MN6 without any problems, 78K miles on the clock, driven daily. I did some research as well...the incompatibility issue due to paper seals has not been verified, but has assumed "urban myth" status. Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is approved for use in C5's of all ages!
While you are under the car changing the ATF, might as well change the differential fluid as well...I use Mobil 1 there too.
I stuck with conventional Valvoline Dexron III ATF and it alone improved the shifting quality. Previous owner told me he had put in Redline before; not positive, but the shifter was definitely very notchy. It's a lot smoother now; not quite as nice as the German/Japanese gearboxes though.
Note: On my '00 FRC, the fill plug on the driver side did not have a temp sensor attached to it. The temp sensor was higher up on the passenger side; the fill plug was a simple plug like the drain plug. Took about 3.5 qts before spilling out.
