I finally have my intake set up to satisfy my performance and looks requirements. I installed the Donaldson Blackwing and married it to the Volant Performance Air Bridge and Coupler. Z06 screens with cut out shrouds add the finishing touch. Pulls strong, looks good, sounds great, and can "chirp" 3rd gear shifting at 5,800 rpm.
Two weeks ago I intalled the Volant system with dual cone AFE filters on a "Y" manifold. Worked great, but there was no way to anchor the filter end or the air bridge. As a result there was play in the system (side to side) that I felt was unacceptable to me. The air bridge has no tabs for the factory pins and the cone filters had no bracket or mounting point, just tension against the front frame rail to hold them in place. Pis*ed me off so I removed the system and went back to stock.
Knowing how the Donaldson mounts on the factory frame rail pins I ordered the unit figuring it would anchor the rest of the system, (it did). I liked the Volant air bridge due to the increased capacity over stock and the ultra smooth finish inside. Also, the straight EDP coupler to the throttle body worked well and looked better than the factory accordian unit.
Put the two systems together, drilled some 1" holes in the foglight shrouds, installed the Z06 screens (beautiful on Pewter) and voila! Perfect under hood system for me. Solid as a rock.
No digital cam, so no pics yet. There was a thread in the General Discussion showing the Z06 screens on a Pewter car several days ago. Looks better than on any other color IMHO.
