Default Rear Wheel Clearance.

I'm having my stock C5 rear wheels widened to 11" and will be running 315 PS2's. I don't believe I'll have any clearance issues, but wanted to be sure.

Thanks

It depends on the back-spacing of the wheel. 8.25 - 8.5 inch on an 11 inch wheel should be fine.

The back space should stay the same as stock. This place replaces the barrel size and mounts the mag into the same position from the outer rim . . . I hope!

Thanks

The only way the backspace would remain the same would be to add material outboard of the spokes.

Unfortunately, the widening process will add a spacer to the inner barrel, so any and all additional material is added to the backspace dimension.

I answered your same post in the General section in more detail. You'll end up with a 9.3" backspace, and it won't come close to clearing.

You'd have been way better off finding some 18x10.5 repro's to start with. ..that would have worked out fine.

Had a pair of 18x9.5 chrome wagon wheels widened to 11" for some 315x18 drag radials. You'll have clearance issues on the inner fender and the suspension. I added a 1" set of wheel adaptors for clearance - 3/4" might have done it though. Wouldn't do it on regular street tires but for the handful of track days was okay for me. Tires do stick out well beyond the fenders.

Y2Kvert

Thank you for your input. It certainly sounds like you know more then me when it comes to this. They haven't started working on the wheels yet so I can ask them to do whatever will work. The place that's doing the work is called Vaughn's, in CA. I got his name of this forum. He does work for Foose and Budnick so I'm confident he'll do a good job. If I stay at 10.5 I should be ok?

Thanks again!

11 is fine, IF the offset is correct.

I may be mistaken in the widening technique...I suppose it is possible to build up the hub surface of the wheel too, and thus be able to create it in any offset/backspacing required.

I would suggest letting them know your concerns about this, I'm sure they can tell you definitely what they can and cannot do with the wheels...bottom line is you can't exceed about 8.5" of backspace or you'll have inner clearance issues.

Y2Kvert,
Thanks again for your advise.
I think I'll stay with what I have and be happy to have a nice vette.

Your car is very nice.
