it's been 7 months and 5k miles when do i change it ,where do i get it ,and how easy is it to install ?...mucho gracias .
You already have the Vortex and want to replace the filter in it...correct?. If so, check to see if it is visually dirty, it may not need changing. You can replace it with another filter...avaible from any vendor that sells the Vortex...and in the forum mall. It is also cleanable, us a K&N recharge kit aviable at most auto parts stores.
Re: when to change vortex filter? (Austrian Vette)
I just checked mine recently, it had been 10K miles since I had last cleaned it.....air filter looked brand new, not a hint of dirt on it. I figure that you can probably go 20K+ miles between cleanings but if it is really dusty where you live of course you will need to clean it more frequently.
I've been advised every 5 -10k miles depending on conditions. Yes, it is cleanable. I've got a spare that I keep clean and sealed in a ziploc. That way I just swap them out and then clean the dirty one, reoil and then seal it up in the ziploc for the next time. The system works great for me!
As ours is an EDD, I clean it every 5,000 miles. Works good every time.
You would be suprised what I find up in the front of the evaporator core & in the air cleaner............ Styrafoam blocks, leafs, etc.
Water temps do not go up either! (except during runs in the mountains during the fall.....lots-o-leaves).
You can CARFULLY blow out the filter with compressed air, then soak & reoil after drying.

I clean mine every 5K miles , it never looks like it needs it - but if it's dusty where you live you need to clean it more often.
I used the K&N cleaning kit for mine.
I don't have the Vortex but I clean my donaldson/Halltech filter every 5k. The K&N cleaning kit is perfect for the job.

The Vortex filter will not get very dirty in normal use over a period of 10K miles or so..but the oil will dry quite a bit and the filtering effect will decrease.
So, even if your filter does not seem dirty, check the oil coating regularly. If it seems to need it, re-oil it between cleanings. You will get the best filtration from your filter that way. Just don't over oil either, just a light coat as you do when first re-oiling after the cleaning process.
Hope this helps and good luck
I clean mine at every oil change, I drive along the beach every day, I dump enough sand out of it to make my own sand box. It's easy to do when the car is on a lift anyways.

If the Vortex is anything like the K&N filter (I believe it is similar) then the following should apply.
K&N actually recommends letting the dirt build up on the filter. Supposedly it will perform better as more dirt builds up. The only thing you have to worry about is making sure the filter has sufficient oil to help capture new dirt. Don't let it dry out. Cleaning periods should be few and far between depending on the conditions in your area.
This contradicts what others are posting but I've installed K&Ns on other cars and know this to be true.
