CLUTCH warranty??
Just took my Uncle for a ride, revved her up , popped the clutch, RPM went
up, clutch pedal went to the floor, clutch smoke everywhere............
It's a 99 so I still have a year or so on the warranty.........25,000 miles on car
Thanks, vett1 99FRCTR

Perhaps someone who has had this happen to thier car can give better first hand experience on the warranty issue.
But, the clutch won't be covered under warranty at this point.

I had my whole car replaced!!! Anyways, I had a clutch problem at about 15,000miles. Both the master and slave cylinders were shot, had them done first. The clutch was starting to go and I would have had them replace that too, but with all the "concern raising" I did on my car (mind you, I had an early production number in 97), GM put me into a new car.
Back to your question, the approach I took was this...I informed them that my last car a lightly modified 90 Nissan 300TT had over 150,000 miles on it with the original clutch. I put on about 130,000 of those miles. I then stated that my driving habits had not changed from my last car to this one, and the only variable was that my vette was made by chevy and not nissan. Given, that I had experience driving a stick and that I knew what I was doing, as evidenced with my last car, it could only be a problem with the quality control at GM. I then politely asked what GM was going to do about my problem, and informed the service rep that I would have no problem escalating the matter to the regional GM (corporate, not dealer) rep to have it resolved.
The guy tried to argue with me stating that I didn't know how to drive a stick, or that I was more aggressive with this car, blah, blah, blah...My response was the power produced by both motors was about the same (although using different means), and that I drove the cranberry juice out of the nissan, and in fact babied by vette, and that I would have expected the GM product to last the same amount of time...he agreed that the clutch would be changed if I reported any other issues with it after the master and slave cylinders were replaced.
My point, go in with a good argument, be ready to take it up a level (not the dealer level, but the corporate level) and be polite. However, if you've been driving the crap out of the car and beating your clutch, well, you can decide what's fair.
Just so you know, GM assigns regional service reps to oversee how the dealers are administering warranty claims. So, if a service guy at your local GM hack shop says no, the GM regional service rep is the one you want to talk to. The dealerships are wary of this guy, so letting them know you are ready to go up a level should help. As always, the regional guy's first response will be no, or its your fault, go in prepared, know your facts, and they'll have a hard time refusing you, because in the end, you can go over their head also.
Hope that helps. Good luck!!!
and the clutch hooked up fine. That was the first time that I revvvvved it up to around
3,000 RPM befor dumping it. Just thought it should handle it as I'm all stock!
I guess if (when) I mod a new clutch is in order.
Thanks again.............. vett1 99FRCTR
