I have an '01 vert that I mounted my V1 next to the mirror via suction cups. Is there a better place to mount it? I have heard of a mirror or visor mount, but need more details. Does the visor mount limit use of the visor or move the V1 when moving the visor? I would prefer a mirror mount, but I don't think there is one for an '01 mirror.
There are mirror-mount advocates. I'm not one of them because I want the detector directly in my line of sight for immediate action when hit by instant-on.
So I mount mine in the extreme upper left of the windshield using the suction cups. Works great there and cannot be seen from outside the car.
I used the visor clip holder that came with the V1, removed the clip and bolted it to a mount I fabricated from metal that I screwed into the windshield surround to the left of the mirror. When inserted, the hardwired V1 is at eye level. When the visor is down, it's invisible. And it's easy to remove so the V1 can be used with the suction cup holder and the cigarette plug in other cars.
Great Lakes Trophies makes V1 mounts for both mirrors as well as sun visors. The mirror mount they make can't be used with the electrochromic mirrors on 2001 and later. I have the sun visor mount. It's an easy install, remove one screw holding left edge of passenger's sunvisor, slide visor mount bracket on, reinstall screw. It does interfere somewhat with passenger's sunvisor as it now can only be dropped down to vertical with V1 in place (i.e., the visor cannot be flipped forward to that it is touching the windshield.)
We have the new Visor Mount for the valentine 1 on August Special with free shipping, along with the Mirror Mount, on the Mall. The Visor Mount will work on the 2001 & 2002 C5 along with all GM Cars.
I had my V1 custom installed on the driver's side A-Pillar by Kustom Kar Audio in Boulder, CO. My installer fabricated a fiberglass mold that holds the display itself while the sensors were mounted in the bumper. This install works exactly as the original V1 works, and it's very very stealth. You cannot see it if you look into the car as it's moulded into the A-pillar.
My installer is working on an A-pillar mold that could be mass-produced if there was enough interest.
Here's a pic -- not a great one, but you get the idea:
I am having problems with my V1 blowing fuses. I need to send it back for service. When I get it back, I am going to attempt to hardwire it and mount on the passenger visor. I am going to try to mount the remote display for the V1 in the Heads Up Display. I believe the indicator arrows will be visible on the windshield. Does anyone have a picture of the V1 mounted with the rear view mirror mount?
