Default Replace tires Size question

I would like to replace my tires with wider tires to protced my mag rims. so I would go from 275 to 280 or 285 on the back and 245 to 250 or 255 on the front.

Question.. can I do this and what happens to tire wear and performance.

I would also like to go dow to 35's front and back...is this..

What would be reccommended for comfort, performance and rim protection

There are no 280 or 250mm tires made. It will always be xx5. Going to a 285 rear and 255 front would represent a +1 sizing (if you keep everything else the same), and should be no problem. Going to a 35 aspect ratio will be a problem though... especially up front, where the OD will be too small.

Try plugging various sizes into the online Tire Size Calculator so you can get a feel for the effect of making different changes, and also to see what's available. BTW, stock wheels are 17" x 8.5" front and 18" x 9.5" rear.

Go to tirerack.com and get tires in stock zo6 tire sizes. They will fit your rims. Some tires also have a built in rim protector. A thick rubber edge by the bead seat area

Thanks guys great advice as usual.

I still don't quite undersdand why 35's won't work on the front...

when you say "18 X 9.5 does that mean 275? This confuses me.

Thanks

The Stock Z06 size is perfect. Remember the rear tires are just a little shorter. So if you have a 3.15 axle ratio you will go to a 3.22 axle ratio and speedometer will be about 1.3 mph off at 60 mph. Not a bad thing actually. Wider tires and a better axle ratio.
