Waiting for my cam install/tune to have the TM adjusted. A lot of guys do not recommend removing it all together but rather changing the settings upwards. You probably want some measure of safety if it's your daily driver. Those I have talked to all say the difference is felt at launch and can help those lagging 60 foot times...
I didn't mean safety net as in not crashing I meant safety net as in not grenading rear output shaft, tranny, etc. You won't be launching with the Traction Control on anyway so that point is moot. Definitely have it adjusted, either raising the limits or removing it completely. Even bone stock it is holding you back.....
The problem with what you're asking is this.....no one just turns off the Torque Management. Since they would have to be in your PCM file to turn it off, it usually means you are getting a tune. That means shift points and firmness are being adjusted, air/fuel optimized, and maybe 5 to 10 horses being "uncovered." Even the handhelds will get you 5 hp and adjust shifting/remove TM. So TM alone is hard to gauge. "Hanheld programmers on an A4" thread might get you a little more of the info you're looking for.
Only experience I've had with a handheld is the Diablo Predator on my friend's car....picked up 3 tenths in the quarter mostly due to shift point adjustment, no TM, and finally being able to launch it and get a decent 60' time. Doesn't do near as much for the manual cars.
I am trying to figure out how far back it is holding the A4s
If you will send me your e-mail address, I can send you a screen shot of exactly what TM is programmed to do for a stock 2003 A4 tune. The stock programming in mine effects only the 1-2 and 2-3 up-shift. There is no TM with the 3-4 up-shift. You may also have "Abuse Mode" which throws in a lot of TM when necessary.
most tuning software like ls1 edit, hp tuners, pretty sure efi live will also work. hand helds dont go deep enough in the files, to get you there.
several parameters cam be modified, abuse modes, etc.
As stated in one of my previous posts in this thread, we picked up 3 tenths in the quarter after reprogramming an otherwise stock A4 with the Diablo Sport Predator largely due to the changes in shift points/firmness and removal of TM. He has had NO driveability issues with this car or mod. Hope this helps....
i had no idea...so a major back pedal on my part..sorry.
when i was researching tuning options (here) i was told that the hand helds didnt have the functions to remove tm...
again sorry. i'll pull my posts for being a dunce...DOH!
But remember, just because it does turn off TM doesn't mean it's the best way to go. For the price of a Predator ($349 to $399) you are almost at the price of a good custom dyno tune. No comparison! Research some good tuners in your area and go check them out. You'll be happy you did....
