I took my baby to the dealer to have the growling window TSB fix. After I got it back, I had wind noise. Took it back, they adjusted it three times, now it's worse than ever before. I showed them how the window should contact the rubber stripping on the passenger side, where the rubber actually curls over the edge of the glass, and down a couple of millimeters. After their work, on the driver's side, you can see the beveled edge of the glass--it does not contact the same as it used to. The service manager told me that they don't all fit the same. I informed him that mine used to have no wind noise, and it used to fit just like the passenger side. He said to bring it back in tomorrow. I would like some info or ammo to give to the tech tomorrow on how this should be done. I know I've seen references to this here before, but haven't been able to find much detail on the Search feature here. Can anybody help? Thanks
Re: Anybody have Window Tip-In Instructions? (daveydc5)
Adjusting the tip in of the windows is a no brainer.
You will need a #6 Inverted Torx Socket (Autozone is probably the best place to get one of these), a 10 mm socket and a small flat blade screw driver.
With the window in the up position:
1. Remove the reflector on the rear of the door panel with the screw driver.
There is a clip at the bottom of the curved section to the reflector. Push the screw driver in to release the clip and pry the reflector out from the bottom.
2. remove the large rubber plug underneath the door at the front.
3. loosen the jam nut on the front regulator mounting nut.
4. loosen the jack screw jam nut which is behind the reflector.
5. Turn the jack screw (using the inverted torx socket) counterclockwise
to tip the window inward. Turn it clockwise to tip the window outward. One turn equals .04 inches at the top of the window.
6. Tighten the locking nut.
7. Lower the window and tighten the front locking nut.
8. Check the window tightness against the rubber seal at the top and
rear of the door. Continue to adjust the screw until the window is tight
against the rubber and you cannot pull a paper strip between the window and the rubber. You will also see the rubber compress more as you tip the window in.
9. Replace the plug and the reflector.
I did the procedure in about 10 minutes on my passenger door and it
worked fine. I tipped it in about 1/8" (3 full turns counterclockwise) to
reduce wind noise along the rear edge of the window.
If you need window height adjustments then the dealer is the best place to
take it since you have to remove the door trim panel and it take two people.
It is much more work and best left to the dealer.
Thanks for all the help. I took it in and had a little complaint session with the service manager AFTER he test-drove the car and claimed there was nothing wrong with it. I showed him my printouts from the Forum, and told him there's a lot of talk about tip-in, it's a very common problem. They fixed it after that! :yesnod:

Glad they got it fixed for you. If anyone else is interested, I did the window tip-in and blow-out clip adjustment, and posted I how I did it with pics on my website.
