Default Optima Red Top battery

I need to replace the battery in my '03 coupe. There are 2 different Optima Red Top Batteries: 75/35 and 34/78. Will either fit and do I need any height adapters? Are these the same as Exide Orbital batteries? What is everyone using?

I believe you will find, including myself everyone using the 75/35. The other is alittle larger in size and requires a relatively expensive hold down to fit. In terms of the Exide, I looked at both and it will come down to a matter of taste. Warranty and product are about the same.

I beg to differ, most guy's here is So Cal are running the 34/78, it's more powerful battery and it fits perfect, Optima sells a small hold down kit for $3.00 dollars that has four different types of hold downs, some of these kits come will even come with the battery depending on where you bought it, I got mine at Sears and it came with the hold down kit. In the kit is a hold down that has sort of a triangle shape that fits between the Optima cylinders and will bolt the battery down tight and there is no way it can move if your giving a road race coarse some thought.

Couldn't agree more. The 34/78 is the better choice of the two red tops. Battery hold down? No problem with the small plastic adapter you mentioned.

my 34/78 just died in my C5....no warning..just failed...replaced with a 75/35.

I talked to a few people and they recommended the Napa "spiral" battery over the Redtop but I had already purchased my 75/35. The NAPA is supposedly cheaper and more reliable.
