OK....I got a set of Z06 sway bars in the garage ready to install on my 97 C5 A4. But after reading a few links I'm concerned about creating a too harsh ride on the car. I don't mind firm but I don't want a JARRING ride. Options....? I'm thinking about the addition of better shocks and maybe the Z06 springs.
Well with the miles you have on her it might be a good idea if they are original but some shocks will give you a firmer ride so someone else may wish to chime in here with an opinion to help you make a choice. What suspension do you have? I put Z06 bars on my base suspension 04 and I don't notice any harsher ride but others on this forum seem to. I may just switch them back temporarily and see if the car rides smoother. I do notice the handling improvment though.
I run the Z06 bars and Bilstien Sports. Probably the biggest change to ride quality was goint to 18x35 tires all around. THe 35's don't absorb much shock.
I changed to Z06 bars and Z06 shocks. I didn't feel as tho they made the ride harser. They did however make a great deal of difference in cornering and responsiveness. Springs and shocks will make the ride stiffer, in my opinion, than sway bars.
The new sways will not make your ride harsh. As said above, stiffer springs and shocks or slamming the car (lowering) can make for a more jarring ride. The Z06 sways are a great enhancement to the base suspension and you will notice the flatter cornering.
