I just came back from a trip to oregon. on the way, I stopped to refuel at different areas and I noticed gas octane ran from 91 to 93 octane. Is there any reason why gas isn't made the same. is this to save the refinerys money or is it done for emissions.also will the difference of just 1 to 2 octane have any effect on performance :chevy
One or two octane points will not make much difference, because the car can conpensate. If you run lower octane (like 87) you run the chance of problems and reduced power/timing,etc. I recently found 90 to be the highest in some parts of the Great Plains region. My daughter has a SunOCO station with 94!! Wish I did too.........

I have not seen 93 octane in Oregon recently, mostly it is 92. The 93 rating could be from a station that did not update their stickers lately. I doubt the state workers have time to check the stations very often and I don't think the service station fines amount to much.
Octane Rating is primarily dependent on population density. ie. large metropolitan areas. It isnt prudent for a filling station to have a tank of 93 octane for instance in a town of 100,000 thousand. In Cities like Dallas, its everywhere, because the type of vehicles requiring it are much more prevalent.

Its not just the lowering the octane a few points but to make it worse the smog crap they are now putting in the Ca gas is a real timing killer with hugh ping counts.
Here is 2nd test today using this new AlGoreMe gas.
