I have a 99' vert stock motor. I want to put 3.73 gear ratio and wonder what stall I should get. I want it to have good driveablity. I don't want to rev the car just to get it going from a stop. But i want it to compliment the new gears. Or should I stay with the stock converter?
tci ssf 3500
good price for awesome gains....car will feel stock afetr 3 days of driving it dont worry ....i have 3.42 and that converter and i picked up about a full second in the 1/4 mile with these 2 mods
One more for the SS. I still like the SY, though I don't know if you can still get them. A nice street racer setup. What kind of tire do you plan on running?
Right now I still have the old runflats. I am looking at different wheels and tires. What is a good non-runflat tire?
I've been on Yokohama runflats for the last couple of sets and have been happy with them. I do have the SY converter (a little lower STR) which makes that a little easier to get away with at the expense of a slightly softer pedal. I'm switching to Z06 size wheels soon and plan to run either Michelin PS2s or GY GSD3s (assuming they're available by then.) Others can give better advice for a good street tire with the SS. I do have a CCW setup for the strip.
With an A4 and 3.42 gears why not stay with the stock converter for street driving?
I'm curious because that's what I'm contemplating.
A T/C like the Yank SS3200 or SS3600 will give you much better performance than 3.42 gears with the low stalling stock T/C. A high stall T/C will get rid of the dead spots in acceleration, gears alone won't do that .
