Ok so I have a nice pristine 01 Z with low miles and just when I think in may be time to sell to get a new one, the thing throws a check engine light and a code of P1416 HC. What the heck is that? How many millions is this gonna cost me?
Thanks for all the help in the past, and thanks in advance for this one ...

AIR check valve probably sticking. Replacement about $20 if you do it yourself. It's bank 2 (right side) and that one is a bitch to get at.
I got that code too... it could be check valve at bank B, and yes its a PITA to get at...
however, in my case, it was a vacume line that was severed right under the battery location... if your car is an 01, and still have the OEM battery, remove it and check for leaks, my 02Z had a slow battery leak from the bottom, so a visual inspection from the top view was not enough to diagnose the problem.
There's a thread somewhere about spraying WD40 into the line on the drivers side and using compressed air to force it over to the passenger valve. I sprayed a ton of it in mine, and cleared the codes, but a week later it came back. But 2 months since I cleared it that time and it hasn't come back.
Wonder why the dumb asses put it back there anyway? My SS has one on each side nice and easy to get to like the Vette has on the drivers side. I think if I go through the trouble to change it I will cut the metal tube and re- solder the fitting on the passenger side where it can be accessed.
i had that code and it drove me nuts for about a month.......the part was cheap enough i thought i would just replace it... well i took it to the dealer because i couldn't get to the valve to replace it.... i told the to replace the valve..... well... they decided to do all kinds of air tests on it and fixed it by accident ( loose air line connection)
I just got this P1416HC code on my way home tonight!
SOB! I'm supposed to be at VIR this weekend...
Just recently I had to replace my original battery. The POS post came right out of the battery. Once I removed the battery I found lots of white powder under there. So I cleaned it all up and put a new battery in it. That was 3 weeks ago and the car has been running fine. Inlcuding a trip to Road Atlanta.
So I'll pull the battery and check underneath it for the vacuum line.
Can someone explain what/where the valve is on the drivers side that you are spraying WD40 into? Also is there a tech on the R and R of this valve. I don't mind doing it but don't have a shop manual for the car yet...
I also have that code on my 02 Z06.
I'm still trying to figure out where this vacuum line you guys talk about is located.
Do I need to remove the battery to reach to it?
Thx-Goose
Goose. I have an 02 Z06 also. I think this vacuum line under the battery is an 01 car design. I just spent a couple of hours on my car. The AIR has a big vacuum tube coming from under the drivers side headlight. Goes up the inner fender and under the brake booster. Then it ties in to the drivers side check valve. That is a T fitting. Air goes into it to the drivers side manifold and the other path goes behind the intake to the check valve for the passenger side exhaust manifold.
I tried to get my hand behind the manifold to find the bolt that needs to be removed. Scrapped up my hand pretty good but couldn't get at the bolt. So I think when I want to fix this I'll pop the manifold.
So I cleared all the codes out of the puter. Where the AIR tube makes a T on the drivers side. I disconnected it. Took a can of WD40 with the little extension on the nozzle. Sprayed a bunch of WD40 in the tube that travels behind the manifold. Then reconnect, start car, rev it up a bit for a minute or so. Shut it down and repeated a few times. I took the car for a run up the road and the code didn't come back.
I'll take it to work tomorrow and see how it does. Funny thing is I didn't get this code in the morning when the car is cold and AIR function is needed. I got it after 10+ miles with a warm engine. It happened when I wound up 2nd gear pretty good and then let off the gas.
I have an 02 Z and the vacume line is located in the electrical wire harness , you have to remove the black electrical tape that protects the wires, and you will see a small rubber line inbetween the wires.
In my case, the battery acid had leaked just a tiny bit, penetrated through the tape around the wires, and burnt a tiny hole in the vacume line.
I also had to clean the ground splice in that area
