Hey, new guy here, and YES I did search and read the sticky, but here is my problem. My column lock problem happened Monday night and had it towed to the dealer. On Friday afternoon the mechanic calls and says that he cannot fix it like the latest recall says. He said something to the effect of if he removes the lock/actuator the computer will not know that the actuator pulled the pin, so when I go to drive it as soon as I go over 2mph the computer will cut off the fuel supply. What can I point out in the recall that will tell him it will work?
I'm sure he's wrong about the not running thing, but he also said that if he disables the column lock as the recall states then someone could break a window and push the car anywhere they want because the steering wheel would be free to turn. Is he right about that?

The recall will prevent the column from locking, but it should also take care of the fuel shut off problem, either by installing a relay harness, or as reported in come cases, replacing the actuator.
Whoever the tech was at the dealership needs to bo read some more or you need to complain to the service manager. Whatever version of the letter that you got, GM is effectively telling the dealers to perform the repairs using the procedures and parts specified.
Between the PCM reflash and removing the lock mechanism, that "should" solve the problem although some owners have reported fuel cutoff problems after the fix.
As far as the tech saying that somebody can break into the car and push it away, that may be true; but if somebody wants the car bad enough they will take it. AFAIC, the tech works on cars, he doesn't advise me on security.
