Default car getting hot

my corvette overheats when i set with it idleing for a little bit after driving for awhile it climbes to about 230 then it seems like the fans kick on and brings it to 220 and just keeps doing that. Is that normal?

Yes, normal.

If it goes over 240, then you've got a problem.

Default Check the air intake to the radiater.

I just was installing my front spoiler and looked at the radiater from under the car and almost had a stroke. It was loaded with crap from the road. I found a busted up styrafoam ice box, A couple of those thin plastic bags supermarkets use for your grocerys. Leafs Etc. I cleaned it all out and from now on I will keep a better eye out so it does not fill up again.
I had my car up on Rhino Ramps.

Default running hot

As Ronnie98 said the debris can really collect under there. You can buy an after market screen or make one. I bought a roll of galvanized screen(1/4") from Home depot and made mine.

On the high end, the temp is controlled by the fans. Though the fan setpoints appear to have varied slightly over the years, they are about: low speed on at 226, off at 219; hi speed on at 235, off at 226. So in stop a go traffic, it is not abormal to see temps in these ranges.

Other things to consider are that when the AC condensor is on, the fans will run, thus if it is hot enough out for the AC to run and the fans are on, but the load on the engine is low or airflow through the radiator is high, the temp will go down to the 194 range where the thermostat will go closed again.

in order to really clean the radiator fins good...pull your airbridge off then remove the radiator shroud (4 bolts) you can then carefully seperate the two pieces and hose out from the top down

Last summer my coolant temps would hit over 240 quite often. After a few times of seeing my warning light coming on i started to turn the ac off. Now granted our temps here in Vegas were in the 120 degrees but i still found this to be quite alarming All this happened when driving in traffic around 30 miles per hour. Took it to the dealer and they said all was fine with the radiator. Car went under the knife last month so i figured why not go with a heavy duty radiator. Went with the Ron Davis radiator and the temps are now around 190 to 198 in traffic. That with outside temps in the 70's. Waiting for summer to see the differences

I had the radiator shroud out over the weekend. Wha tI found was many tiny sand and stone particles plugging a lot of the radiator fins. I bought a 24 inch air wand for my air compressor for $2.95 at Harbor Freight and blew most of the crap out of the rad and the condenser

I don't like my car to run in that temp range either so I bought a used Hypertech programmer from a forum member. I use it to turn my fans on sooner and my car runs much cooler, normal temp range now is 178-200. I also have a 160 stat. The average price for a used programmer here on the forum is $100-$150. Make sure it is not locked to another vehicle before purchase.
