Checking resistance on 99 C5 key?
Can I determine with a volt meter at home the resistance of my one and only '99 vette key so I can order the correct replacement? I was quoted $60 for a new key awhile back at a Chevy dealer and they had to order it..

To find your Vats# measure the resistance between the two poles of the resistor ( VATS pellet)that sticks out in the key. Use this chart to calculate your # The Vats number is the one that is closest to the resistance you measure
The 15 resistor codes are:

I bought my blanks on eBay from the vendor called locksmithsource.
Two blanks delivered cost me under $15. A local locksmith that specializes in VATS keys cut them for $2 each. Total cost for 2 keys under $19 !
