Default help with tire sensor learn .

I have done the reading about this issue , and know how to get to the learn mode .
the problem i have is that the 2 front sensors work , but the rear ones don't .
I thought about re-learning the rears , however you have to start at the front left , which is fine however , although I have the cluster to tell me the front ones work , I can't get past the learn front left , then it times out and exits .
Do I need a special kind of magnet ? I am using a broken magnet from an old speaker , then holding it right against the tip of the valve stem .
still yet the horn does not blow , and we do not move to the next learn .

help is appreciated

It sounds like all you really need is to get the magnet positioned properly.
The magnet needs to be more at the base of the valve stem being careful not to touch the wheel.
You may have to move the magnet around the stem ever so slightly in order to get the horn to beep.
It can take several seconds before the horn beeps.

Your car is a 1997, if they are the original sensors, they exceeded all expectations..those sensors were built in 1996. Getting ten years from gen 1 sensors is amazing. New sensors are 330 dollars ( best price ) from genbe culley at fred beans ( forum vendor ) Getting 7 to9 years is typical.

I use an old speaker, just do a circle around the base of the valve stem, might take 1 - a few times around but it should work.

The procedure from GM states it may take as many as 3 attempts to get the sensors to transmit to the computer.

I agree with the others too, move the magnet around, circling the base of the valve stem where the sensor actually is.

These are new sensors right? Gen I sensors are only good for 8 years or so.

Good Luck.

I used a magnet that GM used in a tranmission pan in the 80's. It worked well.
