Default quick question on a h/c package

when doing a h/c package is worth buying such things like a ported throttle body and electric water pump.

IMO "No". You'd be lucky to get 6-8 hp combined from them.....not realy worth the $$$. Spend the extra $$ on stuff like headers, or possibly a FAST intake.......or if you want to spend a few more bucks get some 4:10's.

I would spend the money on the ported TB, but would (and did) go with undersize pulleys instead of an electric water pump. Both seemed to provide about the same performance improvement. The electric pump are supposed to flow more but don't seem as reliable. I've never had problems with temperature during summer so I'm happy with this combination.

If you don'y already have them, long tube headers and cold air intake. Without them you won't get the full benefit of the H/C package. Addl 30-40 rwhp or more.

The electric water pumps seem to have reliability problems, I would think not worth it except for the serious racers.

Ported TB good for 3-5 rwhp, not much gain for the cost of an aftermarket TB, up in the $100/hp range. You can do it yourself in a few hours with a dremel. Do a search, there are instructions here somewhere.

Hope that helps.

I installed a Callaway 78 mm billet TB along with a 75 mm MTI Racing composite MAFS in my 2000 FRC this winter. Have not dynoed the car yet. Both are well made pieces.

I've posted this before, but you may want to check out the March issue of Corvette Fever, they installed both of these parts and did dyno runs after each. the TB was good for +5 rwhp & 9 rwt, the MAFS added +5 rwhp & 5 rwt. The test was on a 99 FRC with H/C, LTs, callaway honker. No additional tuning. Net increase about 10 rwhp & 14 RWT, not bad but cost is a little high, about $950 for both.

I have driven the car a few times since and there is a noticable difference, also a little easier to drive in the lower rpms (city traffic). No driveability issues.

If I was to do it again I think I would opt for the Fast 90/NW 90 set up, a few more $$ but results I've seen resently show about 16-18 hp increase.

Good luck with your H/C install.

ported TB works well with h/c forget e-water pump unless you just want better dyno numbers.
