I just bought a Laser Blinder, planning on installing it next week. The two little "eyes" should be mounted just behind the black filler pieces in the "grilles". But I'm not sure how to get back in there for installation, or what to mount the "eye" boxes onto. Anyone have experience here?
You can feel the back of the fog light block-offs by reaching past the top side
of the radiator air partition. (The part the Vortex guys have to cut a hole in.)
Better access is obtained by maually cranking up the headlight and removing
the black plastic trim piece. (3 screws). Now you can reach down through this opening and feel more of the fog light block-offs. These can be removed by reaching into this opening with a 1/4" ratchet, 10mm socket, and short extension, but you need to have a lot of dexterity. 3 bolts hold the fog light block offs; 2 point forward and 1 points upward from underneath. You need to feel around and find them first. Once loosened, the fog light block-offs are hard to get out. You might have to loosen the fog light mounting screw (10mm socket) to allow the panel to clear the bulb. The easiest way is to remove the 5 screws from underneath which hold the front valance panel to the radiator air partition. These parts are flexible enough to allow the fog light block-offs to be pulled out.
2kbluestreak- Thanks. That gives me something to start with.
Zap- Best price seems to be United Marketing http://www.laser-jammers.com for just under $300. Everyone who has posted about theirs seems to be satisfied, speedlabs.com gave it good marks on their test. My car is at the dealer for warranty work (leaking dif and leaking rear axle boot) so I haven't been able to do the install yet.
This devide would work well if you were on a flat surface.. but I dont think it would do much good on a crest of a hill..... o well.. 30day money back trial...
I already removed the fog light cover and replaced with ZO6 screens... so its just a matter of removing the screens and bolting on! I should have it done by this weekend! :smash:
Do you have to remove the air bridge and all that stuff to remove the shroud? This is starting to look like a big project.....
Yep.
That's what I did. The good part is once the shroud is removed and the hatch covers, you have great access to this area. I have my K40 Laser defuser mounted beside the fog light.
I gotta come up with a different place to mount it now on my Z06.
Out of curiousity, has anyone been pulled over anyways since the newer laser guns give a jamming code that says, hey guy, we're being jammed, you might want to have a little talk with the driver of that car...
Yes, one of the tests I saw (BMW magazine) said he got lasered 4 times on a trip, jammed all 4 times but he got pulled over twice. Got one ticket for no front plate, which had never happened before. That's proably better than a ticket for 90 in a 65 zone. In fact, some states make 30 over a FELONY, so I always stay below that. Also, the current Blinder has an on-off switch, the instructions say that when you get lasered, slow down quickly and then turn off the unit so the cop can get a reading on you.
