Default fog light wiring

We are having a problem getting fog lights to work on my 2003 Z06. I recently purchase the car and it came with Catz racing lights in the front bumper knockout where the "Corvette" tag insert normally would be. This system comes with its own relay which when the foglight switch is turned on "sounds" like it is working but the lights will not illuminate. I have bypassed the relay to check the wiring to the lights and they work fine. It appears that there is a purple wire coming from the factory fog light relay which feeds into the Catz relay (I am assuming as the trigger). I have checked the output of the purple wire when the fog light switch is activated and it works correctly. I have checked all grounds which are OK and it seems to me that the Catz relay is bad. My question is why can't I wire the foglights directly off of the factory fog light relay without having to go through the second Catz relay? Any help or insight would be great!

It's because the lights draw much more current than the switch (and its wiring) would normally allow. You may have a bad relay. You may also have a blown fuse. My PIAAs have a 20A in-line fuse on the hot wire to the battery, and I would assume that yours would be designed the same way. I'd definitely check that out first.

Good luck!

Thanks for the insight, we checked the fuse and all was ok there. I do think the relay has to be the problem with the fog lights. However catz is out of business and we can not get a replacement does anyone have and ideas on wiring a generic relay to take its place.
