Default Oil Pressure

Guys, new to Vette's and new to this site. I recently sold my screaming 02' Firehawk to get a 2000 Vette. I've had it about a week and earlier today the oil pressure shot from 50 to 125. I would assume the sensor is bad but the "check engine" light didn't appear, should it? I checked the oil and its filled as well as the oil life...stating 56% remaining. Sensor or something else? I can change it myself if it is a sensor...but I've never seen this on my T/A and like I said...new to Vette's. Any help would be most appreciative guys.

2000 Vette: Torch Red: Stock to the Bone....for now.

You are "being introduced" to Corvette ownership. Yes, the oil pressure sender at the top back of the block has failed. Just behind the intake manifold. Having it replaced is a common item with the C5's.

Most likely its the pressure sending unit. They do go bad from time to time. You should also install a column lock bypass before that fails and leaves you stranded.

Turn the key to on without starting the engine. If your oil pressure is greater than zero, most likely it is the sensor. When mine went bad, it wandered north of 100 and finally settled at 129 within a few minutes. $35 part and 1-3 hours labor depending on your skills.
