Default 3" exhaust question

If I change out my 2 1/2 exhaust mid section (with x-pipe) for a 3" magnaflow x-pipe (running from 3" collctors to mufflers) will I lose any significant low end torque?
I had never heard of losing torque with a more efficent exhaust until someone posted it.
I have a crappy no name x-pipe and wanted to replace the sytem, but I don't want to sacrifice any low end torque for a few horses on top that I won't use very often.
Thanks

I just got a new set of headers from the Vette Doctors.I was going to get the 3" mid pipes but they didn't recomend it unless you had a big cubic inch or F/I motor.The x part is 3" and then drops to 2.5".I got the off road pipe.

I didn't loose any low end torque. I gained power and torque throughout the power band.

I am running magnaflow mufflers and no cats now.

"The x part is 3" and then drops to 2.5".I got the off road pipe."

It seems like the "reduction" in pipe size would disrupt flow

I guess I just can't see the scientific logic behind losing torque by running a larger diameter mid-pipe. If you will gain hp by allowing the exhaust to flow better and do a better job of removing all burnt gases from the combustion chamber, then how do you lose torque?

I have a Forged 395 stroker with a D1SC, and 3" exhaust all the way out and I can't find a catback to bolt up to the exhaust except Random Tech's.

I was told by a custom muffler shop owner that your exhaust is only as good as it's smallest opening. I do not know what the size of the collectors at the end of the stock headers are, but if they are 2.5 inches and you go to 3 inches down the line, you are waisting your $!

This was his theory and it seems to make sense.

That is along the lines that I have been thinking;
The collectors are 3". I know the mufflers will slow the exhaust flow, but I would think an unubstructed flow to the mufflers would help.
