Check to see if your car's upper control arms are hitting the shocks on the back of the car. (You will be able to because the control arm will wear/rub the paint of the shock absorber.)
My 99 Z51 was doing this until I replaced the shocks with bilsteins...
The solution is to loosen the rear hub nut (33mm) with a CV tool from Pepboys or autozone, etc. Then spray white litium grease (like WD40 but better) on the splines using the plastic straw. Do not remove it, just screw it off about 1 inch. Retorque and no more clunk.
There is a post on the forum, just search for "rear clunking noise".
i had some weird clunking stuff coming from my cars rear suspension and it just about drove me insane. I ended up buying a bunch of parts that i didnt need and didnt fix the problem. Then i put some grease on the sway bar end links just to check......Waa Laaa, no squeky, binding sway bar anymore!? I dunno
