I am new to the C5 Corvette scene, just purchased my first 2000 C5 Convertable yesterday. Already looking to modify some things, first being the intake system.
My first question is what are your recommendation for a decent cost for upgrading the system from the filter to the intake manifold (I assume that is the correct term)? I suppose it would be the air intake duct. I would like to place a K&N air filter then upgrade the rest. A list of recommended manufacturers and models would be great. Nothing extremely expensive and easy to do.
I also would like to receive some tips on detailing the engine, pretty much the do's and don'ts would suffice. I would love to learn how to take care of my Vette.
This is only my opinion, but if you want to do it right and once, spend the money for a Callaway Honker. I've read so many issues with other intakes. The Honker fits right, is extremely well made, looks good and works. Plus, no smog issues if you have to worry about inspections. I think Corvettes of Houston discounts them, but even at full retail I'd do it again. Also, the Honker comes with a Green (brand name) filter, one of the best you can buy.
I agree with striper. I have a Vararam and it works just fine. But if the Honker was available when I got the Vararam, I would have got the Honker. The quality of the Honker is second to none and if you are interested in making improvements to your engine compartment, the Honker also looks great and like it came from the factory that way. I realize it is a little more expensive then the other systems, but in the scheme of things, it is worth it. IMHO
