I am going to buy a set of long tube headers and an x-pipe very soon but i wanted to get rid of my cats. Can i do this by just bolting up the headers and x-pipe or what needs to be done to get rid of the cats? Thanks everyone
I would be very careful about eliminating the cats. They create designed in back pressure that is particularly necessary for the operation of the engine. Without the back pressure you can burn out your valves and I don't think you have that much to gain by eliminating the cats. A friend of mine ran the long tubes w/o the cats and after 2 seasons of open tracking he had to replace the engine.

Old wive's tale. I'm sure your friend's motor blew for other reasons.
There's plenty of us here who run a offroad X-pipe(no cats) without any problems.
If you buy a complete system like Dynatech, it'll have everything you need. One thing you'll have to consider is what to do about your aft O2 sensors. You'll either need to use simulators or have them turned off via a computer edit.
FLP and others make a complet kit that include high flow cats and pipes to replace the cats.........usually run about $1500 and will include cross over pipes and everything all the way back to the mufflers.
I love my ceramic coated FLPs.........never change color. Check out these links.
