2 of the last 3 times I drove my 98 (Vert 27k miles) When I start it up, After putting in it reverse, I get the pull key wait 10 seconds and it cuts out. After I do what it says, it's ok.

Cleaned the key with alcohol, had the steering column lock recall\done,
took it back to the dealer after the column lock recall, naturally nothing showed up.

Installed a window valet a few months ago, all seems well with that. Don't think it's the cause of this problem.
Any ideas?

If the battery has a weak cell then it cannot handle the current load on startup and cannot handle the load for the CL relay

 

Take the battery to Advance Auto Parts and get a free load test

A weak battery will do this

With a little hindsight both times I had that warning, my column lock failed. Both times were due to the same leaky battery not holding charge. Did not find leaky battery till after second column lock incident.
