Default Looking to get into a C5

Hi all! I'm currently in a '04 GTO and I am going to (hopefully) be purchasing a C5 (maybe '99-01). What are things that I should be on the lookout for? Any common problems? I am trying to avoid buying a used car and being either "nickeled & dimed to death" or hit with having to do major repairs (the last used purchase was a Mercedes...all I have to say about that experience is "NEVER AGAIN!")

If you want to know most of the hints, tips, and quirks, then read the sticky entitled "weights, measurements,...." in C5 General. There are many "usual" quirks associated with the C5, and some that aren't so usual!

the sticky at the top of C5 general is a must read.

A few other questions....
1. have they installed a column lock bypass? if not or4der one form www.Corvettes of houston the $50 will save you a world of pain and expensse. Read the sticky on column lock at the top of CT tech

2. if a manual buy a CAGS eliminator. Cags is a fule economy feature that locks out 2nd and 3rd gear and forces you to go from 1st to 4th under certain throttle conditions

3. If it has the digital A/C display ... is it bright and readable....
$750 at the dealer to repair.... if you are handy with a soldering iron free fis, if not a $50 fix from a CF member

4. do the doors lock and unlock with the remote fob.... there is a arcing relay problem. again the dealer wants over $700. Again if you can solder under $10. If not used snap in modules cost about $100

5. Some C5's seem to burn oil... Ask

here's a Corvette specifica pre purchase check list
