My '99 has traction control only. There is no active handling option.
I am having trouble turning traction control on, or off. When I push the button sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. A good whack on the console "fixed it" at first, but then...
Traction control "turned itself back on" during hard cornering over a bump.
The cranky button is part of a module that pops-out of the console just in front of the arm rest. The wire plug harness is connected.
Is it safe to assume the whole module needs replacing and is the source of the problem, or could there be trouble elsewhere?
No messages on the DIC, other than "traction control off".
I would check the continuity of the button/switch first with a volt meter and a battery. Take the plate out, hook up the battery to one side and use the prongs on a volt meter to complete the connection. If switch is good, you will see constant ON or OFF voltage readings on meter depending on swith position. Even shake it a couple of times to simulate road shock. If the switch is good, check the connector contacts and make sure they are clean and tight against the switch. If thats good, trace the wire and check for grounds and abrasions that could short out. Hope that helps.
CHJ,
thanks.
I assume the part number is located on the module? I can check when I get home and don't trust the dealer to order correct replacement.
Would you use dealer, or gm parts direct? They are cheaper on the part number dealer gave me
