Default 2000 FRC Maint. Quest.

I have a 2000 FRC I purchased in Sep of 99. I have 12,000 miles on it and I recently replaced the battery. I was wondering if there was any of items I should look into since this car is reaching 7 years of age? I do oil changes every year at the beging of the season and I have a Donaldson air filer that i plan to clean.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Flush all fluids and replace your belts and hoses. I think that covers the maintenance (based on age, not miles due to your only having 12k on the clock).

Other than engine oil, what other maintenance have you done? That'll give us a better idea of what you need to look at.

With only 12K miles in 7 years, honestly you need to drive her a lot more often. Also, when you *do* take her out, make sure and drive (not idling in the driveway) for 15-30 minutes at normal operating temps. That'll help keep the normal water condensation inside the engine dried out; otherwise the moisture will combine with the engine oil and combustion byproducts to form acids that can cause corrosion.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

Since no one has responded I can give you a few things I would do. I also own a 2000 FRC, just over 29k.

1. Think about flushing out the brake system and clutch hydraulics and replace the fluid.

2. Consider flush and replace the cooling system. Should OK though with only 12k.

3. If you still have the original run flat tires, take a close look at the side walls for cracks. If tire wear is uneven consider a 4 wheel alignmt.

4. You're approaching the end of the lifespan for the tire pressure sensors. May want to pick up a new set and have them on hand. I would buy them from Gene Culley at fred Beans.

5. Inspect cooling system hoses and accessory belt for cracking due to dry rot.

6. Inspect the spark plug wires for cracking ( I would replace them but thats just me).

Just a few suggestions, you have probably already done most of these. I tend to be bit fanatical with my car, so you may be willing to live without TP Sensors, etc.

I'm sure others will chime in.

Hope this helps.

Good luck, sounds like you have a really nice FRC, but then again I'm partial.

Thank you all for your input. As for maint. the only thing that has been done to the car is oil changes. I have already checked the hoses, belts and tires and they do look fine. I will do items 1 - 6, becuase I am also very fanatical.

. . . and yes I will try to drive the car more often.

Thanks again for all your input.

At this age *all* the fluids need replacing (well, not A/C). A couple not listed above are the tranny and differential fluids. Automatic trannys are more difficult than manuals, but after 6+ years it needs it regardless of mileage.

Differential change is easy, just make sure to go back with a good synthetic plus the GM additive (your local GM parts counter will know exactly what that is).

Also check your brake pads for wear. These are probably OK, but need to be looked at.

Fuel filter could be at risk due to the low mileage; air filter is probably OK.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike
